Workspaces show KFWITM217E - SQL1_CreateRequest failed, rc=209

Technote (FAQ)

Question

This error can occur for multiple agents even when the TEP displays the managed system in the navigator as expected. The workspace message is KFWITM217E Request error: SQL1_CreateRequest failed, rc=209.

Answer

The TEPS and TEP clients are all configured with the agent application support since they show the correct information related to the navigator and workspaces. When the user selects an attribute group in the navigator the corresponding workspaces do not show data instead they show an error message - KFWITM217E Request error: SQL1_CreateRequest failed, rc=209. The following image shows the issue with the DB2 agent on a Linux TEMS/TEPS:

In this case the TEPS and TEP clients have application support correctly installed and configured, however, the TEMS is missing application support. Looking at the TEMS and TEPS logs you will see the following errors.

TEMS log (ITMHOME/logs/hostname_ms_timestamp-01.log):

To correct this problem the agent application support needs to be added to all of the involved TEMS's (hub and remote).

LINUX/UNIX TEMS:
- Install the application support from the agent image
- <agent image location>/install.sh
- Select "Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server support" from the list of available packages
- Select the application support for the agent(s) that are missing
- Add the application support to the TEMS
- itmcmd support -t <tems name> <agent code>
- itmcmd support -t redtar ud (This adds DB2 agent support to a TEMS named redtar)
- Restart the TEMS

Windows TEMS:
- Install the application support from the agent image
- Run setup.exe from the Windows subdirectory of the agent image
- The installer allows you to add the application support to the TEMS (an example is shown below)

- If the application support has been installed then you can add it to the TEMS using the Manage Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Services (MTEMS) application.
- Select Actions
- Select Advanced
- Select Add TEMS application support

- Select the application support to add
- Restart the TEMS

The workspaces should no longer show the KFWITM217E error message but should now display the data from the managed system.
