Error 2908: Could not register component when installing Crystal Reports Embedded Edition

Problem

This technote explains how to resolve the Error 2908: Could not register component, that could occur when trying to install the Crystal Reports Embedded Edition that is shipped with IBM® Rational® ClearQuest® 7.x.

Cause

This error is known to occur if the Microsoft® .NET Framework version 1.0 or 1.1 is not installed on the machine.

.NET Framework is not required for ClearQuest, but it is required for the Crystal Reports server.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this error, install Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.0 or 1.1.

Check and see if you have .NET Framework installed.

Download .NET Framework 1.1, Service Pack 1.

After installing .NET Framework, re-try the installation of Crystal Reports Embedded Edition. The error should no longer appear.
