Upgrade Considerations

Upgrading to Maximo Asset Management 7.6.1.3

On 30 August 2013, IBM released Maximo Asset Management Fix Pack 7.6.1.3. Thoroughly review the Maximo 7.5 to 7.6.1 Upgrade Guide for complete upgrade details and instructions before upgrading a Maximo 7.6.1 environment. This upgrade information is about upgrading from Maximo Asset Management 7.5.0.11 or 7.6.0.x deployments.

Automation Scripting Updates - Maximo Asset Management 7.6.1.2 and 7.6.1.3

Maximo 7.6.1 uses IBM JDK 1.8. With Maximo Asset Management 7.6.1.2, the Mozilla Rhino JavaScript (JS) engine was replaced by the Oracle Nashorn (V8) engine. See Automation scripts updates required with the JavaScript engine in JDK 1.8.

Upgrading to Maximo Asset Management 7.5.0.11

Review the Maximo 7.1 to 7.5 Upgrade Guide before upgrading any Maximo 7.5 environment. It contains complete upgrade details and instructions. Your Maximo 7.1 system must be at Maximo Fix Pack 7.1.1.13 before upgrading to version 7.5. If Industry Solutions are installed in your environment, use the Product Upgrade Requirements link in the version 7 Upgrade Requirements section to determine your upgrade requirements.

Upgrading to Maximo Asset Management 7.1.1.13

Thoroughly Review the Maximo 6 - 7 Upgrade Guide before initiating the upgrade to Maximo 7.1.1.3 in your environment. Maximo 6.x must be at Fix Pack 6.2.8 level. If Industry Solutions are installed in your environment, use the Product Upgrade Requirements link in the version 7 Upgrade Requirements section to determine your upgrade requirements.

If your environment is Maximo version 4 or 5, make sure you have the latest Maximo 5 to IBM Maximo 6, version 6.5.1.1. If you need to request this latest version of the Maximo 6 upgrade, open a new case with IBM Support.

Note the Maximo 6 - 7.1, 7.1 to 7.5, 7.5 to 7.6, and the 7.5/7.6.0 to 7.6.1 upgrades are components of the 7.1, 7.5, 7.6.0 or 7.6.1 product installation included when you download the product from Passport Advantage. There is no separate Upgrade media required for this part of the upgrade process. You use the Upgrade Request Form to request upgrade media for Maximo upgrades 3-4, 4-5, or 5-6.

More Upgrade Considerations

Effective 23 April 2011, IBM no longer provides the Oracle WebLogic Application Server media to existing and upgrading customers. Those customers that deployed their existing system to Oracle WebLogic Server and are evaluating an upgrade to 7.6.1 can deploy to IBM WebSphere (provided at no additional cost). To upgrade the WebLogic media, it can be acquired from Oracle or an approved Oracle software vendor. WebLogic Application Server versions previous provided with Maximo Asset Management 5, 6, or 7.1 are not supported for with Maximo Asset Management 7.5 or 7.6. Product Upgrade Roadmaps

Maximo 6.2 to 7.5

The following steps outline a 6.2 to 7.5 upgrade path. If you are planning on upgrading to Maximo 7.6.1, you must review the 7.6.1 Product Upgrade section as the 7.6.1 upgrade roadmap and version requirements are different. If your system is Maximo 6.2, Maximo 6.2.8 is the prerequisite/minimum version, and patch you need to have applied before upgrading to Maximo 7.1. To upgrade from 6.2 to 7.5, follow this process:

  • Apply Maximo 6.2.8 fix pack
  • Install 7.1, that includes the 6-7 upgrade program
  • Contact Maximo Support for Maximo 7.1.1.13 fix pack
  • Upgrade 6.2.8 to 7.1.1.13
  • Install 7.5, that includes the 7.1.1 - 7.5 upgrade program
  • Apply Maximo 7.5.0.11 fix pack

Maximo 6.0/6.1 to v7.5

The following steps outline a 6.0/6.1 to 7.5 upgrade path. If you are planning on upgrading to Maximo 7.6.1, you must review the 7.6.1 Product Upgrade section as the 7.6.1 upgrade roadmap, and version requirements are different. If your system is Maximo 6.0 or 6.1, Maximo 6.2.8 is the prerequisite and minimum version. Maximo 6.0 and earlier versions customers can benefit from alternative upgrade strategies and are urged to contact their IBM Business Solutions Manager to discuss their specific upgrade options. To upgrade from 6.0/6.1 to 7.5, follow this process:

Version 7 Upgrade Requirements

Click here to view the requirements for upgrading to version 7.6.1 from v6 for various Maximo products including industry solutions. Review all of the considerations and prerequisites that must be in place before upgrading to Maximo 7.6.1.

7.6.1 Product Upgrade

If you are planning to upgrade to Maximo 7.6.1, your Maximo 7.5 needs to be at the Maximo fix pack 7.5.0.11 level, or your Maximo 7.6.0 can be at any feature pack level before upgrading to Maximo 7.6.1. Additionally, there is no direct upgrade from earlier versions of Maximo v6 to Maximo 7.6.1. If you are on Maximo v6, the current upgrade path is 6.2.8>7.1.1.13>7.5>7.5.0.11>7.6.1.3.

If your deployment of Maximo has more than one product, Industry Solution, or add on installed, all must be installed to 7.6 before the deployment of Maximo 7.6.1 can be completed.

Note: It is recommended always to install Maximo 7.6.1 and apply its latest fix pack/feature pack before performing the database operations of the upgrade. While this step is optional when performing the upgrade from any Maximo 7.6.0.x version before Maximo 7.6.0.10, it is required when performing the upgrade from Maximo 7.6.0.10.

Although Maximo Support strongly recommends you review the entire 7.6.1 Upgrade Guide, a high-level overview of the 7.5/7.6.0 to 7.6.1 upgrade process is:

  • Apply Maximo 7.5.0.11 fix pack. If at 7.6.0.x, no action needed
  • Complete Maximo 7.6.1 pre-upgrade tasks
  • Run the Maximo 7.6.1 product installation program to upgrade from 7.5 or 7.6.0 to 7.6.1
  • Run the corresponding 7.6 installation for each of the Industry Solution or add-on that is installed in the Maximo 7.5 or 7.6.0 deployment *
  • Apply Maximo 7.6.1.3 Fix Pack
  • Run the configuration utility to perform database update operations
  • Complete post-upgrade tasks
  • Maximo Project Adapter and Primavera Adapter do not have corresponding 7.6 versions and cannot be installed to Maximo 7.6. Primavera must be uninstalled before upgrading to Primavera 7.6. Instructions on how to perform that task is in the attached upgrade guide.
  • Maximo Mobile products are not support in Maximo 7.6.1. Maximo Everyplace and Maximo Anywhere are mobile products in Maximo 7.6.1.
