IBM Support

Upgrade the MQ trial version to a production version

Troubleshooting

Problem

You installed the free trial version of IBM MQ. You purchased the fully supported version and would like to install the supported version without affecting the  system you have configured and running.

Cause

The evaluation trial version license will soon expire

Resolving The Problem

Purchase a license for IBM MQ from your IBM sales representative.

To install the license use either of the following solutions:
  • Follow the IBM Documentation for Migrating your system.
  • Locate the following file on the CD or download of the new code. .../licenses/amqpcert.lic then use this command:

For UNIX: setmqprd {PATH_TO_NEW_CODE}/lib/amqpcert.lic

For Windows: setmqprd {PATH_TO_NEW_CODE}\bin\amqpcert.lic

Verify that the new license was applied by checking that the correct license file (amqpcert.lic) is in the /opt/mqm/lib.

The license is named amqXcert.lic, where X is the license type.
  • amqtcert.lic - is a trial license
  • amqbcert.lic - is a beta license
  • amqpcert.lic - is a full production license

Remove or rename any trial or beta licenses in /opt/mqm/lib. The qmgr picks up the changes once it is started back up.

** On Windows this works using the steps above but you must run setmqprd against the amqpcert.lic file on the production installation media. Thus, you  supply the path to where the license file is on the install cd **
