Potential Timeout Problem During Determine Business Impact Task

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

A potential timeout issue has been identified during the Assess Failing Components and Assess Services Impacted step of the Determine Business Impact (DBI) task.

Resolving the problem

Do not deploy a system integration module (SIM) that you are not using. For example, if you are not accessing status from IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager, do not deploy the Tivoli Business Systems Manager SIM. If you deployed the Tivoli Business Systems Manager SIM, issue the undeployitapm command to remove it.

You should also increase the timeout values for both the IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM WebSphere Portal Server.

To increase the timeout values for WebSphere Application Server, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to the WebSphere Application Server Administration Console.
  2. In the navigation pane, click Servers --> Application servers.
  3. In the table, click server1.
  4. Under the Container Settings section, click Container Services --> Transaction Service.
  5. Set the "Total transaction lifetime timeout" to 900.
  6. Click OK to save your changes and to close the notebook.
  7. In the message box at the top of the page, click Save.
  8. A portlet is displayed that asks if you want to update the master repository with your changes.
  9. Click Save.

To increase the timeout values for WebSphere Portal Server, complete the following steps from the WebSphere Application Server Administration Console:
  1. In the navigation pane, click Servers --> Application servers.
  2. In the table, click WebSphere_Portal.
  3. Under the Container Settings section, click Container Services --> Transaction Service.
  4. Set the "Total transaction lifetime timeout" to 900.
  5. Click OK to save your changes and to close the notebook.
  6. Under the Container Settings section, click Container Services --> Orb Service.
  7. Set the Request timeout to 900.
  8. Press OK to save your changes and to close the notebook.
  9. In the message box at the top of the page, click Save.
  10. A portlet is displayed that asks if you want to update the master repository with your changes.
  11. Click Save.

Restart the WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Portal Server.
