VisualAge Smalltalk End of Service date is 30 April 2006
Content
As previously announced on April 26, 2005, in Announcement Letter 905-093, after 12 years of success in the marketplace, VisualAge Smalltalk Enterprise Version 6.0 (5724-B83) reached end of service status on April 30, 2006. Customers wanting continued software service for Version 6.0 have 2 options:
- Obtain an Extended Support contract from IBM
The VisualAge Smalltalk Support Extension (SE) offering provides a mechanism for securing access to technical support for an extended period beyond the April 30, 2006 end of service date. The Support Extension option is a fee-based offering sponsored by the IBM Global Services Integrated Technology Services (ITS) organization and delivered in accordance with the IBM standard Support Extension policies and procedures. Contact ITS at (888) 426-4343 (from the US or Canada) or use your countries' IBM contact number for Support Extension information.
- Migrate to VA Smalltalk V7 from Instantiations, Inc.
IBM has licensed Instantiations Inc., a well-known vendor in the Smalltalk arena, to produce derivative (follow-on) products based on the VisualAge Smalltalk Enterprise code base. They have announced and delivered VA Smalltalk V7 (see www.instantiations.com/VAST).
NOTE: This flash does not apply to VisualAge Smalltalk Server for OS/390 and z/OS Version 6.0. That product is still in service with no announced End of Service date.
