Notes client hangs on exit if applets are included in Welcome Page

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem

You find that the Lotus Notes client hangs when exiting. Research reveals that this is more prevalent when the Welcome Page in use includes Java applets, such as the Clock applet and Calculator applet. This issue is typically occurs in cases where the Notes client has been running for many hours, and does not occur if one simply starts and then shuts down Notes immediately.

The issue may occur more often when attempt to shut down Notes by clicking the X in the upper right hand corner, and rarely when using the menu File -> Exit.

Resolving the problem

This issue is now fixed.

Fix details: SPR# JCON6MJKDH

Refer to the Upgrade Central site for details on upgrading Notes/Domino.

Workaround
As relative, avoid Welcome Page designs which include Java applets. If you would like to continue to run the applets then you will simply need to kill the Notes client tasks that are left running after Notes hangs. Typical tasks that would be found running are: nlnotes.exe and ntaskldr.exe.

Supporting Information
The Clock applet is found on the layout's E, F and G, when one has selected the Personal Page option when designing a custom Welcome Page.
