JAVA 001-0019 error when accessing QSHELL when using IBM Host On-Demand installed on IBM i

Troubleshooting

Problem

With an IBM Host On-Demand 5250 session when accessing QSHELL with the command QSH at the command line and you type "java", the JAVA 001-0019 error appears.

Symptom

Help pages for the Java™ command do not display when using IBM i QSHELL..

Cause

If the help pages do not display, it is possible that the symbolic links are incorrect or broken.
This can happen when the IBM i is upgraded from one version of operating system to another and the Integrated File System (IFS) has been restored from one operating system to the new operating system.

Diagnosing The Problem

When in IBM i QSHELL, typing java with no parameters should display help pages for the java command.

The java command should show:

> java
Usage: java [-options] class [args...]
(to execute a class)
or java -jar [-options] jarfile [args...]
(to execute a jar file)
where options include:
-cp -classpath <directories and zip/jar files separated by colons>
set search path for application classes and resources
-D<name>=<value>
set a system property
-verbose[:class|gc|jni]
enable verbose output
-version print product version and exit
-showversion print product version and continue
-? -help print this help message
-X print help on non-standard options
$

Resolving The Problem

If the IFS was restored from a previous version, contact to IBM i Support to restore the correct IFS files.
