MustGather: Host On-Demand Java Web Start client Problems

Technote (FAQ)

Question

What information should be collected for IBM support to use in troubleshooting problems when the IBM Rational Host On-Demand Java Web Start client does not function as expected?

Answer

Once the logging is enabled and you have cleared the installed Web Client code, recreate the problem and provide these items to IBM support:

  • The Java Web Start client files created from the Host On-Demand Deployment Wizard
  • Java Console from Web Start Client
  • Web server log

If you have already contacted support, continue to the Component Specific MustGather Information section below. Otherwise, see Data Collection: Read first for all IBM Host On-Demand products.

Component Specific MustGather Information
  • Send the Deployment Wizard created zip file that includes all of the Java Web Start files. If the zip is not available, send the files below based on the type of html model you used.
    If you are using the Host On-Demand Deployment Wizard HTML model:
      * filename.jnlp
      * filename.html
      * HODData folder
      * filename folder from the HODData folder
      * files within the HODData folder
      cfg*.cf
      params.txt
      policy.obj
      preloads.obj
      wInfo.txt

    If you are using the Host On-Demand Deployment Wizard Configuration Server model:
      * filename.jnlp
      * filename.html
      * HODData folder
      * filename folder from the HODData folder
      * files within the HODData folder
      params.txt
      preloads.obj
      wInfo.txt

  • To get the Java Console, click on Java Console button on the Web Start client window.

  • See your vendor-specific web server documentation to find out how to get the web server log.

  • To enable basic traces when a Host On-Demand Java Web Start client is not working as you expect, update the Host On-Demand jnlp file with the Deployment Wizard.
    1. Start the Deployment Wizard.
    2. Edit the existing jnlp or html file.
    3. Continue to click Next until you get go Advanced Options page.
    4. Click on Additional options.
    5. Select Problem Determination on the left navigation bar.
    6. Select Tracing and provide an explicit path for the trace such as c:\tracefile.txt
    7. Click ok, then Next.
    8. Specify a different file name to indicate a page with debug enabled.
    9. Create the page and deploy to the server.
    10. Access HODRemove.html from http://hodserver/alias/HODRemove.html to remove the current cached client files before performing the trace.
    11. Access the newly created jnlp file.

Recreate the problem and send the files to IBM.
