Information on Notes ID tables
|
| | | | Question | When running Fixup or Compact you get the following error:
"Unable to extend an ID table - insufficient memory."
Fixup and Compact do not complete. The database is left in a corrupt state. Even if you run compact with the switches -c -i, this error will be reported.
This will typically happen in database with the following characteristics:
- Large number (100,000 +) of documents and/or deletion stubs.
- Documents are being continually added to and deleted from the database, typically several thousand per day.
| | | | | Answer | To work around the problem:
- Restore from a backup made prior to running Fixup or Compact, then pull a new replica.
or
- Consider reducing the purge interval, thereby reducing the number of deletion stubs.
Running copy-style Compact on a regular basis will mitigate the effect of the ID table fragmentation, but ultimately it will be necessary to create a new replica. The Fixup and Compact tasks build an ID table that contains pointers to an ID for every document in a database, including deletion stubs. The ID table is limited in size. The ID pointers are stored in a compressed format, which is most efficient in a newly-built database. As documents are added and deleted over time the ID table can become very fragmented and eventually will overflow. | | | | | | | | | |
