Updating Eclipse with GEF

Note: The steps below are only valid for Eclipse versions prior to 3.4. Refer to technote 1327758 for Eclipse 3.4 instructions.

Install the CCRC Plug-in

Follow this procedure to install the ClearCase Remote Client plug-in for Eclipse (including Rational Software Architect - RSA 7.0 or later).

Note: Starting with ClearCase version 7.0 (and later), the GEF Runtime is also required for CCRC. Attempts to load the CCRC plug-in without the required runtime will result in an error installing CCRC. See below for example errors.

Up-to-date installation instructions can be found on your Rational Web Platform (RWP) server, found at http://RWP-web-server/ccrc/update where RWP-seb-server is the name of your web server. An example has been provided below for your convenience.

Note: RSA 7.0 will require CCRC to be updated to CU02 or later. Review the steps to Update the CCRC Plug-in.

1. Open Eclipse or RSA 7.0 and click Help > Software Updates > Find and Install

2. On the Feature Updates page, select Search for new features to install and then click Next.

3. On the Update sites to visit page click one of the following buttons to configure RSA to download CCRC:

Option 1

- Click if ClearCase is not installed on the host.

In the New Update Site dialog:

For example, http://RWP-web-server/ccrc/update where RWP-seb-server is the name of your web server running the Rational Web Platform.

  2. In the Name field specify a name by which the update manager will refer to this site
In this example we will name the site CCRC.

  3. Click OK

Option 2

- Click if ClearCase is installed on the host.

Browse to the %ClearCase Home%\web\update directory and select the update folder (by default C:\Program Files\Rational\ClearCase\web\update) and click OK.

The Edit Local Site window will appear.

Change the name from web/update to a more suitable name and click OK.

Note: In this example we will use the name CCRC.

Note: The Update Manager will then install the plug-in.

9. Restart Eclipse or RSA to complete the installation process.

10. After the installation is complete, you can access the ClearCase Remote Client for Eclipse by opening the ClearCase perspective within Eclipse. On the Eclipse main menu, Click Window > Open Perspective > Other and then select ClearCase

Updating Eclipse with GEF

Note:
This section only applies to Eclipse. The Rational products (RSA, RSD, RAD, RSM, RFT, RTM) ship the GEF. Updating GEF in this fashion is not supported for these products.

Method 1: Download the GEF bits, create a Local Site on the Eclipse host and install the plug-in.

  1. Visit the GEF Project download page.
  2. Select and download the GEF bits for the version of Eclipse being used.
  3. Unzip the archive to a location on the local host.
  4. Following the steps above, create a New Local Site and point to the eclipse directory of the GEF plug-in and click Finish.

  5. Select the GEF feature to install

  6. Complete steps 6 - 9 above to finish installing the GEF plug-in.

Method 2: Create a Remote Site using a link that points to a location where the GEF plug-in can be downloaded and installed. Follow steps from Option 1 above to create a New Remote Site to install the GEF plug-in.
