Unable to copy the document to the baseline directory, when creating a RequisitePro baseline

Troubleshooting


Problem

This technote explains why the error, Unable to create a baseline. Unable to copy the document to the baseline directory. Path not found, which might occur when using IBM® Rational® RequisitePro® to create a baseline from a RequisitePro project with baseline tool.

Cause

The full error message is as follows:

Error Creating the RequisitePro baseline.
Reason:

Unable to create a baseline.
Unable to copy the document to the baseline directory.
File not found "

In the <install dir>\Program Files\Rational\RequisitePro\bin\BaseComp.log.x file, you will find the following information:      

createBaseLine: Unable to create the baseline:
com.rational.rjcb.ComException: HRESULT=0x80040000: RqBaseComp.BaseCompApplication.CreateBaseLine_: Unable to create a baseline.  
Unable to copy the document to the baseline directory.              
Unable to copy the document to the baseline directory.

This issue is often the result of a reference in the project database, to a document that has been moved, removed or renamed - and therefore cannot be found and copied to the baseline.

Resolving The Problem



To resolve this issue perform the following:

  • Check the project that you tried to create the baseline from for lost documents.

    You can do that by double clicking the document. If the document cannot be found, you will be offered to browse to the new location.

    If it has been deleted or cannot be found at all anymore, you should also delete the document from the RequisitePro explorer by right-clicking the document and select Delete.

  • If you have many documents in your project or having trouble finding the document that is lost use the FindInvalidDocs utility below:
