How to package up a core file for analysis by DCE and DFS Support

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

You have a core file that needs to be submitted to DCE or DFS Support for analysis. Core files by themselves cannot be submitted for analysis; the core file must be packaged up with its associated binary and shared libraries. This "Hint & Tip" document provides information on the packaging tool.

Resolving the problem

You have a core file that needs to be submitted to DCE or DFS Support for analysis. Core files by themselves cannot be submitted for analysis; the core file must be packaged up with its associated binary and shared libraries. (Please note that truncated core files cannot be analyzed at all by the Support team.) How do you go about packaging up the core file?

DCE / DFS Support has provided 2 scripts that will perform this core file packaging: script grab_core will package a core file that was generated on a Solaris machine; script senddata will package a core file that occurred on an AIX machine. It is imperative that you run the appropriate script on the machine where the core actually occurred, with the core file still residing on that machine.

To obtain a copy of grab_core, go to:

To obtain a copy of senddata, go to:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=125&context=SSGMCP&dc=DB520&uid=swg21115415&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en

Additionally, it is recommended to run the DCE script called show_conf on the machine on which the core occurred, and send the output of show_conf along with the packaged core file. show_conf is a script that outputs verbose information regarding the configuration and health of DCE, DFS, and the OS.

To obtain a copy of show_conf, go to:
