DFHFC0525 forward recovery logstream will not open

Troubleshooting

Problem

You are receiving message DFHFC0525 and want to know why the forward recovery logstream failed to open.

Symptom

DFHFC0525 OPEN of file filename failed because the forward recovery log stream could not be opened.

IXG231I IXGCONN REQUEST=CONNECT TO LOG STREAM logstream DID NOT SUCCEED FOR JOB jobname. RETURN CODE: retcode REASON CODE: rsncode DIAG1: diag1 DIAG2: diag2 DIAG3: diag3 DIAG4: diag4

Cause

A logger failure is preventing the logstream from opening.

Resolving The Problem

Check the system log(syslog) for IXGxxxx messages. This message gives more clues why the forward recovery logstream failed to open. This message will likely be IXG231I and should include the request IXGCONN and return and reason codes. You can find the return and reason codes in the z/OS MVS Programming: Authorized Assembler Services Reference EDT-IXG. For example, if the failure in the IXGxxx message indicates an IXGCONN request, check the return and reason codes for an IXGCONN request failure.

The CICS Information Center was updated through an electronic reader's comment form (ERCF) to include additional information in the User Response for the DFHFC0525 message. Part of the update mentions to check for an IXG message:

Check for an IXGxxxx message with the name of the logstream.
