DESCSTAT subsystem parameter

Question & Answer

Question

Should I set the DESCSTAT subsystem parameter to YES or NO?

Answer

Development recommends that users set DESCSTAT to YES if they are dependent on retrieving column names. All users of the JDBC and CLI (on DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows) drivers are dependent on this column information for correctly retrieving metadata from the catalog. (Note that the native ODBC driver on DB2 for z/OS® does not use the common metadata stored procedures, so this driver does not have the same dependency. )

Because of this usage, the default is DESCSTAT YES, but be aware that binding with DESCSTAT YES does increase the size of your bound plan or package.
