GUI not displaying all files for restore or retrieve.

Resolving The Problem

To display all objects for restore or retrieve the, Tivoli Storage Manager GUI must first build all levels of the "directory tree" structure for the given node/filespace. If a backup or archive of the directory no longer exists on the Tivoli Storage Manager server, the GUI does not know to create this directory in the tree it displays. It therefore cannot display any further directories or files that might exist (are backed up or archived) on the Tivoli Storage Manager server.

The command line client can still display these objects because the high level qualifier of each object includes the full path (directory structure). The command line client displays each object independently with its high level (full qualified) path name. The GUI requires/expects to find the actual backup or archive entries for all parts of the path.

To resolve this problem, the missing directories need to be backed up or archived again. The management classes used for these objects need to be inspected to ensure that directories are not expiring before the files that reside beneath them. For archive objects, the delete archive command could have been used to remove the archive directories.

The output from query backup or archive or select statements against the backups or archives tables for the node and filespace in question can provide lists of backed up or archived objects for review to determine if there are indeed missing directory entries.
