Switch Zoning Capabilities for TPC 4.x

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Can I do zone control activities using the switches in my SAN? What agents do I need? What types of zone members are supported?

Answer

The following table shows the capability of several common Fibre Channel switch vendors as they relate to the zone control functions provided by IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center 4.x. Limitations may be due to the capabilities of the switches or the interfaces they use to execute commands. Some activities available with a switch's own management application may not be available using IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center.

Notes
1 - The out-of-band agent interface for zone control was removed with IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center 4.1.1. Although the out-of-band agent is available in version 4.1.0, using the CIMOM agent is preferred.
2 - For IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center 4.x, if both inband fabric and CIM agents are configured for a fabric, the CIM agent will be used as the preferred agent type.
3 - With IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center 4.2, both Brocade and McDATA switches in a mixed fabric can be managed with integrated SMI agent in DCFM or Network Advisor. See the 4.2 supported products matrix for more details. If you are using the older Brocade and McDATA SMI Agent applications, you must use each to manage their respective switches.
