Troubleshooting
Problem
At this time, IBM® Rational Rose® does not support the creation of UML Object Diagrams. This technote provides two possible workarounds as well as a reference to software that includes this functionality.
Resolving The Problem
UML Object diagrams are very similar to class diagrams with one difference. Object diagrams are static representations of class instances and interactions, including values, function calls, and ownership at a specific moment in time. These diagrams focus more on the specific instance of a Class and objects created under that instance or linked to that instance, rather than relationships between instances that are typically present on class diagrams.
In Rational® Rose, this functionality can be partially simulated by the use of Collaboration diagrams or sequence diagrams, but neither offer the ability to represent model elements at a single point in time.
Although Object diagrams are not included in Rational Rose, the functionality has been incorporated into IBM® Rational Software Architect (RSA), which extends support for modeling in UML 2.0. At this time, Rose models can be migrated to RSA. For more information on RSA and migration from Rose to RSA, visit the RSA trials section of the Rational Support Homepage and a summary of Rose Model Import tool in RSA.
