Configuring a Personal Communications 5250 session results in Current Keyboard setting defaulting to User-Defined

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

AS400.KMP file is default keyboard profile for 5250 configurations, providing the most commonly used 5250 mapping

Resolving the problem

When configuring a Personal Communications 3270 session, the Keyboard Setup > Current Keyboard window setting defaults to the IBM Default keyboard profile. For a 5250 session, the Current Keyboard setting defaults to the User-Defined keyboard profile AS400.KMP.

The IBM Default keyboard profile matches the old 5250 hardware keyboard configuration, where the Ctrl key maps to Enter. The AS400.KMP file provides a keyboard profile that maps Enter to Enter, which is the most commonly used 5250 mapping.

The AS400.KMP file is a profile created when the first 5250 session is configured. Like other user-defined mapping files, you can modify the AS400.KMP file (unlike the IBM Default keyboard profile).
