Adding a project to the RequisiteWeb project list

Question & Answer

Question

How do I add a project to the IBM® Rational® RequisiteWeb® project list?

Answer

By adding projects to this list they will appear in the project drop down menu from a RequisiteWeb login screen.

RequisiteWeb uses a text file called catalog.txt to read the projects to display in RequisiteWeb. Projects are not added to the catalog.txt file automatically. Users must add the Project path into the catalog.txt file manually.

The catalog.txt file contains the entries for the RequisiteWeb project list. This file can be edited through Notepad or another text editor.

Each project should have its own line, and must contain the full path to the projects RQS file. If the project files on located on a server other than the web server, a UNC path name must be specified to the shared folder containing the RQS file for the project.

Once the path has been added and the catalog.txt file saved, simply refresh the RequisiteWeb login page and your project name will be available in the project drop down menu.

Note: If the project files are located on a different server, the user created for RequisiteWeb (by default, ReqWebUser) must have read / write / modify permissions to that share.

To update the catalog.txt in version or 7.1.x.x

  1. Locate the catalog.txt file on the RequisiteWeb server in the following directory:

    C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\RequisitePro\ReqWeb\projects\catalog.txt
  2. Insert a new line in the catalog.txt and make sure there is no ' at the beginning of the line.
Note: Lines starting with ' are comments and will be ignored.
  3. Type in the full path to your project (local path or UNC path), and include the RQS file name.
    For example:

    C:\Program Files\Rational\RequisitePro\Projects\TestProject\TestProject.RQS

    OR

    \\Projects_Server\TestProject\TestProject.RQS

To update the catalog.txt in version 2003.06.xx or 7.0.x.x
  1. Locate the catalog.txt file on the RequisiteWeb server in the following directory:

    C:\Program Files\Rational\RequisitePro\ReqWeb\Projects\catalog.txt
  2. Insert a new line in the catalog.txt and make sure there is no ' at the beginning of the line.
Note: Lines starting with ' are comments and will be ignored.
  3. Type in the full path to your project (local path or UNC path), and include the RQS file name.
    For example:

    C:\Program Files\Rational\RequisitePro\Projects\TestProject\TestProject.RQS

    OR

    \\Projects_Server\TestProject\TestProject.RQS

Multiple catalog.txt files cannot exist in a single installation of RequisiteWeb:

RequisiteWeb has been designed to use one catalog.txt file. This issue has been identified as a Request For Enhancement and is logged under RATLC00015894.
