Setting the default line style in Rose

Troubleshooting


Problem

Setting the default line style in IBM® Rational Rose® to either rectilinear or oblique can not be done through the Format -> Line Style menu.

Resolving The Problem

In Rose2001a and later versions, the default line style setting is located in the Windows® registry. On UNIX® platforms, Rose has a gui simulation of the Windows registry which contains this setting.

WARNING:
This TechNote includes steps that require modification of the Windows Registry. Using the Microsoft ® Windows Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require a reinstall of the operating system. Rational cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Rose should not be running when performing these steps.

  1. On Windows, go to Start->Run... and type "regedit". On UNIX platforms, navigate to the directory rose/bin directory and run ./regedit.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rational Software\rose\Rose
  3. Look for the entry "RectilinearLinesUML" on the right, and double click on it.
  4. To make the default line style Rectilinear, enter "Yes" for the value. To make the default line style Oblique, enter "No" for the value.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\RationalSoftware\rose\Rose.
