About ClearCase Environment Variables for Triggers

Question & Answer

Question

Where is there documentation that discusses the IBM® Rational® ClearCase® Environment Variables that can be used in trigger scripts on Windows®, UNIX® and Linux®?

Answer

There are ClearCase Environment Variables (EVs) that get set in the environment in which a trigger action script runs.

When a trigger fires, the trigger action executes in a special environment whose EVs make information available to –exec, –execunix, and –execwin routines. These EVs are discussed in detail in the mktrtype section of the IBM Rational ClearCase Information Center documentation under the topic of Trigger environment variables or by running cleartool man mktrtype.

Nearly every operation that modifies the VOB creates an event record in the VOB database. For example, when you create a new element, attach a version label, or lock the VOB, an event record marks the change. Refer to the events-ccase section of the ClearCase Information Center documentation for a list of which commands cause which operations.
