Error: 'The buffer pool is too full to bring in another page...' when update task is running

Technote (troubleshooting)


While attempting to update the Domino Directory using the update task, you receive the following error:

    "Error updating view "($ServerAccess)" in names.nsf. The buffer pool is too full to bring in another page."

After this occurs, when users attempt to access the server, they receive the error:

    "Failed to authenticate: Your public key was not found in the Names and Address Book."


This issue can also occur if there is low disk space available to the domino server

Resolving the problem

Upon reviewing the notes.ini file on the server, you discover the following parameter:


This parameter limits the size of the buffer pool. In this case, after removing the parameter and restarting the Domino server, you no longer receive the error. Removing the parameter will allow the Domino server to automatically allocate memory. On the server, the default maximum when this parameter is not in the notes.ini is determined to be between 1/8 and 3/8 of available physical memory, depending on the overall size of physical memory. The Domino Server needs to be restarted after this process is complete.
