Answer

The error is generated when the save interval has been exceeded:

"Error on Notes API call: Backup terminated due to timeout."

The default backup timeout starting with 6.x and later releases is 15 minutes. If a save of the files in a group (defaults to 50 files) takes longer than 15 minutes, the error will be generated. This means that the databases are still being saved, but the changes occurring during the save might not be saved.

To resolve this error condition, we recommend reverting the backup to 5.x behavior so that no timeout is set. This is done using the notes,ini parameter:

    "BACKUP_NO_TIMEOUT=1."

Other options exist, including the following:

Decrease the files saved in group using the following notes.ini parameter:
    "SAVDOMBRM_FILES_IN_GROUP=x"
to reduce the chances of the timeout being encountered.
You can increase the timeout using the notes.ini parameter:
    "BACKUP_TIMEOUT=x"

but, again, you may continue to see the error depending on the time it takes to save the group. Because of this, we recommend setting no timeout.
