Is Java supported on Macintosh OS X?

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem

Is Java supported in IBM Lotus Notes on the Macintosh OS X platform?

Resolving the problem

Notes 8.5
Notes 8.5 can only use JVM 1.5 on the Macintosh. Pre-8 versions of Notes on Macintosh did not support Java.

There are large differences in the architecture between the Macintosh Runtime for Java (MRJ) and Java on Windows.
