CVS versioning is based on optimistic team programming model

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

Exclusive checkout is not supported for the CVS plugin in WebSphere® Studio.

Resolving the problem

CVS uses an optimistic team model. This model is designed for checkouts that do not lock files, and automatic or manual merges when files are checked in to manage changes in your team environment. There is no locking. Every user can check out files. Files are checked out in read/write state. However, the repository does not support committing files without synchronizing with the repository. You can choose to update your local copy or override the copy in the repository when synchronizing. You have to merge the repository changes with your changes.
