IBM Support

OSA-2 and OSA-EXPRESS cards must be defined correctly in the IOCP for TCP/IP to use such devices

Troubleshooting

Problem

If the IOCP gen associated with OSA cards is defined incorrectly, TCPIP devices will not start. NETSTAT DEVLINKS indicates the device remains in Negotiating state.

Cause

The IOCP gen associated with OSA cards is defined incorrectly causing the stack devices to not start successfully.

Resolving The Problem

OSA-2 must be configured with CHPID TYPE=OSA. OSA-EXPRESS cards in QDIO mode must have CHPID TYPE=OSD configured while OSA-Express cards in non-QDIO must have CHPID TYPE=OSE. After attempting to start the OSA with incorrect definitions, NETSTAT DEVLINKS will display the status of the interface as DevStatus: Negotiating with LnkStatus: Not Active.
