Specifying correct portrange when defining ENTERPRISE EXTENDER (EE)

Question & Answer

Question

Use of EE allows platforms running TCP/IP natively to communicate between legacy SNA applications that may reside on the mainframe. However, the correct range of ports must be defined for EE to function properly.

Answer

Data from SNA applications is placed into UDP packets, passes through the Enterprise Extender TCP/IP network and is then unencapsulated for processing by the application on the other end of the connection. By default, the ports used by EE reside in the range from 12000 to 12004. Use the IPPORT statement to alter this default, defining the first of five consecutive ports to transmit low, medium, high, network, and signal priority data as described in the z/OS Communications Server SNA Resource Definition Reference (SC31-8565).
