Question & Answer
Question
DB2® Table Editor requires the use of the DRDA port on the iSeries™, which is typically port 446. You will need to verify that the DDM TCP/IP services on the iSeries is enabled for the DRDA port to be in a listen state. If the DRDA port is not in a listen state, you could receive a communications error message: WSAECONNREFUSED.
Answer
DB2 Table Editor supports DRDA connections on the iSeries, which is port 446 by default.
If the DDM TCP/IP service is not started for port 446 on the machine you are trying to connect to, you will receive a communication error message: WSAECONNREFUSED.
To verify the DRDA port is in a listen state, perform the following on the iSeries:
- Type NETSTAT on the OS/400® command line.
- Select Option 3 - Work with TCP/IP Connection Status.
- Look for DRDA under the Local Port column. The status should be State = Listen.
If DRDA is not listed on the screen called Work with TCP/IP Connection Status, the DDM TCP/IP services must be started on the iSeries.
To start the DDM TCP/IP server:
1. Type STRTCPSVR *DDM on the OS/400 command line.
2. Verify that DRDA is in a listen state and repeat steps 1 through 3 above.
Alternatively, you can start the DDM TCP/IP server in this way:
1. Type GO TCPADM on the OS/400 command line.
2. Select Option 3 - Start TCP/IP.
3. Verify that DRDA is in a listen state and repeat steps 1 through 3 above.
Tip for the iSeries: To ensure the DDM server, which opens the DRDA port, will start automatically when the STRTCP command is issued during the system startup, perform the following:
1. Type GO TCPADM on the OS/400 command line.
2. Select Option 2 - Configure TCP/IP Applications.
3. Select Option 5 - Change DDM TCP/IP Attributes.
4. Change the autostart server prompt to *YES.
