Error description

  • A problem reported through the mailing list 01/07/2002.

    Subject: Open IFS File

I'm attempting to open an IFS file in Code Edit (first
    time.)

In the Server field I entered the server I defined,
this error message when I clicked the Browse button:

    Unable to connect to AS400

I then entered the server name of my STRCODE server,
and I got this error message when I clicked the Browse
    button:

    Dialog operation failedjava.net.UnknownHostException:
    OS400A

If I typed in a file name, /home/phil/test.txt, I got
this error when I pressed OK:

    EVF2032 RC = 385
    File name /home/phil/test.txt not valid.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When attempting to open an IFS file in CODE/400, the error
'Unable to Connect to AS/400' is issued. The server name
has been defined in the Communications Console.
This occurs when the server name specified has been defined
in one of the following methods:

    1. The 'CODE/400 server name' and the 'AS/400 IP Name or
Address' are not the same. The 'AS/400 IP Name or
Address' is a known TPC/IP Name or Address.
          ie. CODE/400 server name: TS400
AS/400 IP Name or Address: TS400.MALL400.COM
      or
                  CODE/400 server name: MY400
AS/400 IP Name or Address: 9.11.222.333

    2. The 'CODE/400 server name' and the 'AS/400 IP Name
or Address' are the same but the name is not a known
TCP/IP name and has not been defined in the 'LMHOSTS'
          file.
          ie. CODE/400 server name: NETSHARE
AS/400 IP Name or Address: NETSHARE
                     (where NETSHARE is not known)

The 'Unable to Connect to AS/400' error is expected in
    this case.

Problem conclusion

  • The 'CODE/400 server name' is an alias known internally to
CODE. This does not have to be the same as the 'AS/400 IP
Name or Address' . CODE will be changed to allow the
opening of an IFS file where the server name is defined with
a name that is different from the 'AS/400 IP Name or Address'.
