Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All IMS V710 using BBO and HALDB. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A batch DLI receives message IEC161 *
    *                      with RC56 and RC62 after batch backout  *
    *                      BBO on a PHDAM database.                *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    A DLIBATCH doing updates on partition one of a PHDAM data
    base with three partitions. A checkpoint is done. Then more
    updates goes into partition two, halfway through, the job
    abnormally terminated. A batch backout BBO was scheduled.
    Messages MSGIEC161 RC56 and RC62 were issued on the first
    open of partition one.
    .
    The reason of the messages because the first partition
    failed to close properly leaving on the OPEN for OUTPUT
    bit on in the catalog. The next attempt to open the data
    set will cause IEC161I RC56 RSN84. This error will cause
    an implicit verify to be issued by VSAM. If the VERIFY
    is successfull, IEC161I RC84 RSN62 will be issued.
    The IMPLICIT VERIFY only updates the in-core control
    blocks. However, the open for output bit will not be
    turrned off in the catalog.
    .
    All partitions that were open at the time of the ABEND
    should be opened and closed during batch backout. This
    feature is missing from current IMS releases. The fix
    of this APAR goes beyond the scope of an APAR.
    PTM KFN0397 is opened to address this issue.
