PM96515: REDUCE PERFORMANCE IMPACT WHEN LARGE NUMBER OF LIBRARIES ARE CON FIGURED IN THE AUTHORING PORTLET

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • In WCM environments that have many libraries (50+) it is
possible to configure the WCM Authoring Portlet to allow users
with the appropriate access to explore all of these available
    libraries.

As the number of libraries available through the
authoring portlet increases the impact of processing the access
rights authoring capability increases increasing page rendering
    times.

Typically the security checks and existence checks to
determine the set of available libraries is cached and causes
minimal impact to a request, but if the caches are cleared or
items have yet to be cached then the impact to request
    performance can be noticeable.

Local fix

  • Reduce the number of available configured libraries within the
Authoring portlet at any given instance.

Problem summary

Problem conclusion

  • To minimise the impact of configuring an authoring portlet to
have a large number of available libraries the algorithm
determining user rights to authoring capability has been
optimised to reduce unnecessary access checking against all
    available libraries.
