Error description

  • You work with IBM SPSS Statistics 22. You create two new files
    in the same session.
A file 1.sav with two variables id and a and a file 2.sav with
    variables ID and b.
You then click on Data - Merge files - Add variables while 1.sav
is the active file. You select id as key variable for the join
and select 'non-active dataset is keyed table'.
You then merge the file with STAR JOIN syntax and the result is
fine, you see variables ID, a and b in the merged file with the
    correct variable content.
You then delete variable b from the merged file manually and
notice that suddenly the content of variable a has the values of
    the deleted variable b.
This was reported to IBM SPSS Development. please note however,
this happens only once and only for brand new created files. If
you reload 1.sav in the same session and merge it again with
2.sav, delete variable b manually from the merged file, then the
content of variable a will stay as it should.
This does also not happen if you use the same files first time
    after you restarted the program.
