Problem conclusion

• The SQL preprocessor has been changed to leave '/' alone inside
  EXEC SQL statements unless it is preceded by an '*' in which
  case the bytes will be changed to '*>'. This prevents compiler
  errors since the EXEC SQL statement will have been placed inside
  comments that must not end prematurely.
