Error description

  • Reduced index build parallelism on parallel partition LOAD when
    running with DB2 Sort

Local fix

  • N/A

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 9 for z/OS, DB2 10 for z/OS, and     *
    *                 DB2 11 for z/OS LOAD utility users           *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Reduced index build parallelism when *
    * running LOAD with partition parallelism *
    * and DB2 Sort for z/OS caused by message *
    *                      DSNU397I DSNURPIB - NUMBER OF TASKS     *
    * CONSTRAINED BY VIRTUAL STORAGE BELOW. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply corrective PTF when available *
    ****************************************************************
    LOAD against a table space with multiple partitions and multiple
    indexes was using parallelism for both partitions and indexes as
    indicated by messages DSNU364I DSNURPPL - PARTITIONS WILL BE
    LOADED IN PARALLEL, NUMBER OF TASKS = mm and DSNU395I DSNURPIB
    INDEXES WILL BE BUILT IN PARALLEL, NUMBER OF TASKS = nn.

    When using DB2 Sort for z/OS the number of index build tasks was
    less than optimal and MSGDSNU397I indicated virtual storage
    constraints below the line.

    This happened for a large number of partitions being loaded in
    parallel and caused longer elapsed times.

    Additional keywords: MSGDSNU364I MSGDSNU395I

Problem conclusion

  • Code was changed to correct the calculation of parallel subtasks
    when running with DB2 Sort for z/OS.

Temporary fix
