Error description

  • A statistics API client program running on z/OS repeatedly
    attempted to connect to a Gateway daemon statistics port that
    was not active.

    The client program received return code -135
    (CTG_STAT_ERR_CONNECTREFUSED).

    After approximately 2000 connection attempts the return code
    changed from -135 to -118 (CTG_STAT_ERR_CONNECTFAILED).

    Approximately 500 requests later the statistics API client
    program received an abend0C4.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: CICS TG statistics API program *
    *                      might terminate with an abend0C4.       *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    If an attempt to connect to a CICS TG statistics port failed to
    complete, the socket used was not cleaned up
    properly and was not reused. After many attempts to connect
    to an inactive CICS TG statistics API port, no more socket
    descriptors were available. This resulted in the following
    symptoms being reported.

    The statistics API trace showed :
     3014  DEBUG  stapi_ctg_gwycon.waitForConnection Calling
                  select() on socketdescriptor 2048
     3017  *EXC*  stapi_ctg_gwycon.waitForConnection select
                  call failed with error 121
     3006  *EXC*  stapi_ctg_gwycon.connectToGateway() Unable to
                  connect to Gateway:
                  EDC5121I Invalid argument.(121)
     3007  EXIT   stapi_ctg_gwycon.connectToGateway(port=2057,
                  ipAddr=13BBE9B1, socketDescriptorPtr=13CF5038)
                  connectRc=-100
     2004  *EXC*  stapi_ctg_gwytok.openStatsSocket() Failed to
                  connect to Gateway 127.0.0.1:2057, connect
                  rc = -100
     2005  EXIT   stapi_ctg_gwytok.openStatsSocket(gwTokPtr=
                  13CF5028, hostname=127.0.0.1, port=2057) rc=-118

    A CEEDUMP generated by the abend0C4 shows that the exception
    occurred in connectToGateway in CTGSTATS.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS TG has been corrected to release sockets for failed
    connections.
