Error description

  • Abstract:
    
    Attempts to filter the contents of the Enterprise Explorer using
    the Quick Search functionality might make the tool unresponsive.
    
    Problem:
    
    These steps reproduce the problem in a workspace that contains
    many projects and files:
    
    1. Open the Enterprise Explorer View
    2. Type text in the Quick View (text area at the bottom of the
    Enterprise Explorer)
    3. Observe that the tool becomes unresponsive.
    
    Note: Profiling the application shows that the following methods
    consume a large amount of CPU time:
    
    com.ibm.etools.ui.navigator.FilteredTree$2.runInUIThread(IProgre
    ssMonitor)
    
    com.ibm.etools.ui.navigator.SDFilteredTree$SDNotifyingTreeViewer
    $RefreshViewJob.runInUIThread(IProgressMonitor)
    
    Workaround:
    
    There is no known workaround at this time.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • The use of the quick search in Enterprise Explorer view has
    performance issues with a large workspace.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The trigger of the quick search is now made by ENTER key or
    Search button only. This way, as the user is typing in his
    search string, the product will not become unresponsive after
    the first key press.
    The fix for this APAR is included in Rational Application
    Developer v8.5.5.
