Error description
In a WebSphere eXtreme Scale V8.6.0.1 standalone installation on Linux operating systems, running with memory-based eviction on several backing maps. Therefore, the installation is running the -Xgcpolicy:optthruput policy, as required per the following information center topic: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/wxsinfo/v8r6/topic/com.ibm.web sphere.extremescale.messages.doc/CWOBJ0070W.html. This configuration works. However, when you start the eXtreme Scale server, the following warning message is displayed: [4/15/13 9:03:26:843 EDT] 00000001 ServerImpl W CWOBJ0070W: The IBM implementation of the JVM is using a garbage collection policy that might affect performance. The CWOBJ0070W warning is documented at http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/wxsinfo/v8r6/topic/com.ibm.web sphere.extremescale.doc/cxsprogttl.html, and states that this warning is logged whenever any garbage collection policy other than -Xgcpolicy:gencon or -Xgcpolicy:balanced is used.
Local fix
Developers are looking to turn the warning to an informational message to satisfy the customer request.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Customers using WebSphere eXtreme Scale * * who want to tune the JVM garbage * * collection policy. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: There is a conflicting CWOBJ0070W * * message for the garbage collection * * policy and the information center * * documentation. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The CWOBJ0070W message did not take into consideration the change in the default garage collection policy for newer Java Development Kits (JDK). The warning is not valid in all cases.
Problem conclusion
The new informational message, CWOBJ0070I, in the SystemOut.log file shows the garbage collection policy that is being used. That policy is based on the default for the JDK being used, or it is overwritten by the -Xgcpolicy option that is set. Users might use this information to tune the environment.
