Error description

  • When the JMS adapter reads a message,
    it doesn't check whether the destination is null or not.
    But when the message is put on a Websphere MQ queue
    using MQ explorer, the destination is of null value which causes
    a NullPointerException.

    * Developers using the Worklight JMS adapter to connect to *
    * WebSphere MQ and who use testing facilities (e.g. WebSphere *
    * MQ Explorer) which generate messages with null values for *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * If the user puts a message on a message queue using the "Put *
    * test message" function in Websphere MQ instead of putting *
    * the message on the queue by normal means, when Worklight *
    * tries to read that message through a JMS adapter, a null *
    * pointer exception occurs and the read message fails. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When a JMS message is read from a queue using a JMS adapter,
    several properties about the message are retrieved in addition
    to the message payload. When a test message is put on the queue
    using the Websphere MQ explorer's "Put test message" function,
    several of these properties are set to null since it is just a
    test message. The Worklight adapter was not properly handling
    one of these values when they were null which caused a Null
    Pointer exception when one of these test messages were received.

Problem conclusion

  • The adapter has been modified to properly deal with message
    properties which have null values.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    release 6.0.0.0.
