PM89192: NUMERIC FIELD COMPARED TO CHARACTER FIELD FLAGGED AS INVALID ON A FILE MANAGER COMPARE

Error description

• In the situation where a numeric field is being compared to a
  character field and the character data is not a valid numeric
  number, the handling by File Manager needs to be changed such
  that if the character to character comparison does match, then
  File Manager should not flag the data as invalid. The return
  code for this comparison result should be customizable.

  *                      does not contain a number the message   *
  *                      'At least one record with invalid data  *

  *                      will be issued and the compare function *
  *                      will end with RC=8.                     *

  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF.                      *

  When comparing a character field to a numeric field File Manager
  is converting the character field to a numeric value before
  the comparison is done.  If the character field does not contain
  a valid number the fields will not be compared.
  

Problem conclusion

• 1. The compare function has been changed such that when comparin
  a character field to a numeric field if the character field does
  not contain a valid number, a character to character comparison
  will be done.
  2. The parameter INVDATA has been added to the FMN0RETC sample
  to allow the DSM 'Invalid data' batch return code to be
  customized.
