Error description

  • Abstract:

Attempts to create a IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.5
profile within the product result in ignoring the Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) specified for the runtime.

    Error Description:

    1. Install Rational Software Architect for WebSphere Software
(RSA4WS) 8.5.1, WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 8.5 with JRE
1.6 and 1.7. Do not create a profile for WebSphere Application
    Server.
    2. Start the product. Within the dialog Configuring the
WebSphere Application Server, select as JRE for the runtime
environment WebSphere Application Server JRE 1.7
    3. Open the perspective Java EE
    4. Open menu Window ? Preferences, select preference page Server
? WebSphere Application Server, select runtime WAS 8.5
    5. Click on Run Profile Management Tool
    6. Create a new WAS profile

    Actual Result:
When starting the newly created server profile, the server
starts with JRE 1.6 and not one 1.7

    Expected Result:

When starting the newly created server profile, the server
    starts with JRE 1.7

    Local fix:

Manually execute the following command on the command line in
case you installed the 64-bit version of WebSphere Application
    Server v8.5:
    ?WAS85HOME?\bin\managesdk -enableProfile -sdkName 1.7_64
    -profileName ?YourProfile?

    ****************************************************************
When chosing to create a server and select JRE 1.7, the
profile created when the launches the Profile Management
Tool from Window ? Preferences ? Server ? WebSphere
Application Server ? Run Profile Management Tool, will be
the default JRE (which is 1.6). As a result, there is a
mismatch between the selected server JRE version and the
    created profile.

Problem conclusion

  • The profile will be converted to the selected JRE level once
the Profile Management Tool has successfully created the
    profile.

The fix for this APAR is included in Rational Application
    Developer v8.5.5.1.
