PM87261: ABEND0C4 IN DSNURFIT +41B2 AND DB2 DOWN WITH ABEND04F RC00F30420 ON RESTART OF REORG UTILITY WHICH HAD FAILED IN SORTBLD PHASE

Error description

• A REORG of a partitioned tablespace (64 partitions)
  terminates in SORTBLD phase due to space problems with an
  NPI (which can be a valid condition):

  Then the job is restarted and gets an abend0C4 in DSNURFIT
  at offset x'4510' (at level UK83642) and causes a DB2 crash
  with an abend04f rc00F30420.
  The sequence of the abends leading to the DB2 crash is the
  following:

Local fix

• Do not restart a REORG on partitioned tablespace if it has been
  stopped during SORTBLD phase until a fix for this apar will be
  available
  

Problem summary

  REORG SHRLEVEL REFERENCE NOSYSREC was run on a partitioned table
  space, which abended in the SORTBLD phase due to space problems.
  When job was restarted, an ABENDS0C4 RC4 occurred at DSNURFIT
  OFFSET41B2 and an ABEND04E RC00E20027 occurred DSNSVBK
  OFFSET1C02 happened, which eventually led to the DB2 subsystem
  eventually led to a DB2 abnormally terminating with an ABEND04F
  RC00F30420.  The problem occurred because an internal variable
  was not set correctly and caused a storage overlay.
  
  The problem can also happen with a universal table space (UTS)
  or with the RESTART of a REORG SHRLEVEL REFERENCE NOSYSREC
  which had previously abended in the SORT or BUILD phase.
  

Problem conclusion

• REORG utility has been changed to set the internal variable
  correctly during RESTART.
