PM85029: STATISTICS CLIENT FAILS TO OBTAIN A LICENSE ~50% OF THE TIME OVER VPN

Error description

  • You are a large organization with Statistics clients deployed
    all over the world and your cetnral License Manager locatedc in
    the U.S.  Your client s connect to the license manager over VPN
    and for some clients (mostly in Asia) your clients take an
    overly long time to obtain a license or fail outright.
    
    After much digging, you are able to resolve the issue yourself
    by turning off the "UDP Checksum Offload" setting in the driver
    settings for your NIC.
    
    The remaining question to ponder is why this setting should make
    any difference to SPSS Statistics (or the underlying SafeNet
    licensing technology).

  • This is a network issue at the customer site and according to
    Safenet. There is nothing we can do .  It was specific to teh
    NICs installed to these clients and their "UDP Checksum Offload"
    setting.  Essentially these NICs were underpowered and timing
    out.
