PM84474: REORG AUX YES ABENDED WITH RC00E40005 ON UNLOAD PHASE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Online REORG AUX YES SORTNUM 35 ran against a PBR UTS tablespace
  whose table has an BLOB(2M) column with inline length 7000.
  REORG tried to allocate extremely high volume of DAxxWKxx
  datasets and exhausted the SMS storage group for temp datasets:
  ICE083A D RESOURCES WERE UNAVAILABLE FOR DYNAMIC ALLOCATION OF
  WORK DATA SETS (970C).
  
  Even after RUNSTATS, REORG still failed with the same reason.
  Finally this problem bypassed by manually specified 8 DAxxWKxx
  datasets.

  A REORG with AUX YES ran on a base table space which contained
  a table with an inline LOB column.  REORG overestimated the
  average row length resulting in an ABEND04E RC00E40005 and
  RC00E40347, along with message ICE083A D RESOURCES WERE
  UNAVAILABLE FOR DYNAMIC ALLOCATION OF WORK DATA SETS (970C).
  This problem happened because the INLINE LOB length was
  calculated into the fixed column length.  If UTSORTAL=YES is
  used this can result in MSGDSNU3341I - CANNOT ALLOCATE SORT
  DATA SETS WITHIN 255 LIMIT.
  

Problem conclusion

• REORG code has been modified to calculate the INLINE LOB length
  into the variable column length.
