Error description

  • Customer is using nonstandard install and profile folders for
    their WebSphere Application Server V6.1 installation and their
    WebSphere Application Server V8.0 installations. Currently the
    customer has WebSphere Application Server V6.1 at /WAS61 for
    both proddata and userdata and WebSphere Application Server
    V8.0 at /WAS80 as well. Customer is trying to run their
    WASPreUpgrade command and is failing with message:

    MIGR0104E: You must specify the currently installed
    Application Server directory name.

Local fix

  • Installed iFix:

    8.0.0.4-WS-WAS-IF59540v2.zip

    Added environment variable PASE_QIBM_IFS_OPEN_MAX with max
    files of 10,000.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When the install directories aren't *
    *                      /QIBM/ProdData/... and /QIBM/UserData   *
    * on IBM i, migration code cannot start *
    *                      WASPreUpgrade.                          *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The migration code cannot calculate the install root from the
    command line options for WASPreUpgrade when WebSphere
    Application Server is installed to something other than
    /QIBM/ProdData and UserData.

Problem conclusion

  • The WASPreUpgrade script is modified to set an environment
    variable pointing to the install root. The property is
    com.ibm.ws.migration.iseries.installRoot.  This will override
    the current mechanism that the code uses to get to the install
    root from the provided user root on the command line for
    WASPreUpgrade.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 7.0.0.31, 8.0.0.7 and 8.5.5.0. Please refer to the
