    When the JVM local charset is different from the default, an
    OMException may occur when using the
    getOMStructure(String) method in the WS-Security
    com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.wssapi.OMStructureFactory SPI.
    Following is an example exception:
    org.apache.axiom.om.OMException:
    javax.xml.stream.XMLStreamException: An invalid XML character
    (Unicode: 0x4c) was found in the prolog of the document.

Problem conclusion

  • The convenience method used by the WS-Security
    getOMStructure(String) method in the WS-Security
    com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.wssapi.OMStructureFactory SPI
    to create the OMElement from the input XML uses the Java
    String.getBytes() method to retrieve a byte array
    representation of the String. This method can cause problems
    if the JVM local charset is different from the default.

    The OMStructureFactory.getOMStructure(String) method is updated
    to use String.getBytes("UTF-8").

    The following method is added to
    com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.wssapi.OMStructureFactory:

       public abstract com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.wssapi.OMStructure
    getOMStructure(InputStream is) throws Exception;

    The following method is added to
    com.ibm.websphere.wssecurity.wssapi.token.GenericSecurityTokenFa
    ctory

       public abstract GenericSecurityToken getToken(InputStream
    is, javax.xml.namespace.QName valueType) throws Exception;

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 7.0.0.29, 8.0.0.7, and the fix pack after 8.5.0.2.
