  • Attempts to upgrade an Oracle encyclopedia or connect to the
    encyclopedia results in the error 'XML parsing failed' in IBM
    Rational System Architect.
    
    Configuration:

    Database = Oracle 11.2.0.3.4
    Oracle Client version 11.2.0.3 (and registered the corresponding
    OraOLEDB11.dll)

    Detailed Description:
    ------------------------
    This issue regarding the error message as described in the
    Symptom section, is known to occur in two scenarios:
    
    Scenario #1:
        Attempts to upgrade an Oracle encyclopedia result in the
        database (db) error message during the 'Populate
        EntityXML' phase in IBM Rational System Architect (SA).
    
    Scenario #2:
        Attempts to connect to the Encyclopedia result in the
        db error message in IBM Rational System Architect
        Encyclopedia Manager (SAEM).
    
    Scenario #3:
        Attempts to use the 'merge - extract' function
        result in the db error message and crash SA.
    
    Scenario #4:
        Attempts to import a definition result in the db
        error message and crash SA.
    
    Impact:
    ------
    Blocks upgrading, updating and opening the encyclopedia.
    
    Steps to Reproduce:
    ------------------
    Scenario #1:
    1) Launch SA.
    2) Open an Oracle Encyclopedia.
    3) Accept the upgrade prompt.
    
    Scenario #2:
    1) Launch SAEM.
    2) Connect to an Oracle encyclopedia db.
    
    Scenario #3:
    1) Launch SA.
    2) Open an Oracle Encyclopedia.
    3) Use the menu 'Tools | Collaboration | Merge'
       or
       'Tools | Collaboration | Extract'
    4) Select your options.
    5) Press OK.
    
    Scenario #4:
    1) Launch SA.
    2) Open an Oracle Encyclopedia.
    3) Use the menu 'Dictionary | Import Definitions'
    4) Select your options.
    5) Press OK.
    
    Expected Result:
    ---------------
    To be able to upgrade and open the encyclopedia without error
    message.
    
    Actual Result:
    -------------
    You see the error message detailed in the Symptom.
    
    
    WORKAROUND:
    Un-check OracleXMLEntity in SAEM 'Tools | Encyclopedia Schema'
    and you should be able to open the encyclopedia.
