Error description

  • Sometimes DB2 V10 SYSTEM STATISTICS data collected for
Group Buffer Pool contains very high values in GBP_CKPTS_TRIGGER
(QBGLCK) and GBP_DEP_GETPAGES (QBGLGG) fields. For example
OMPE STATISTICS REPORT - LONG generated with customer's data
    shows the following GBP values:

    . . .
    GBP CHECKPOINTS TRIGGERED 3620.00
    . . .
    GBP CHECKPOINTS TRIGGERED 4822.00
    . . .
    GBP CHECKPOINTS TRIGGERED 5540.00
    . . .
    GBP-DEPENDENT GETPAGES 14691.8M
    . . .
    GBP-DEPENDENT GETPAGES 17915.6M
    . . .
    GBP-DEPENDENT GETPAGES 17931.2M
    . . .

DB2 on z/OS Support Experts have determined this happens when
the Global Buffer Pool gets disconnected and later is
re-connected. At disconnect time DB2 stops to include the
stats for that Buffer Pool in the IFCID 0002 record. But it
does not reset the accumulative counters to zero at that time.
This causes OMPE to report very high values next time this
    Global Buffer Pool connects again

    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
QBGL delta calculation may cause accumulated values to be
reported as an interval delta values for low activity GBPs.
That occurs in case when there is begin interval QBGL but there
is NO end interval QBGL in two consequent IFCID 2. That caused
unexpectedly high numbers for QBGL fields mistakenly reported.
