Problem summary
During page generation it is possible that the content of the page will be converted from one encoding to another. At times, this conversion can result in characters that are invalid in the encoding to which the content was converted.
Problem conclusion
The fix is to detect converted characters which are invalid in the page's intended encoding, and remove them during the page generation process. The fix for this APAR is included in Rational Application Developer v8.5.5.
