Error description

  • Error Description?
    EL Expressions are not being evaluated if the expression is in
    this format:
    \\${10+20}

    Having two backslashes before the EL Expression should result
    in the expression being evaluated, however it is not.

    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: An EL Expression in a JSP file is not *
    * evaluated if the expression is *
    *                      preceded by two backslashes ("\\").     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    If two backslashes are positioned before an EL expression, it
    is considered to be escaped and the expression will not be
    evaluated.
    For example, an expression such as this:
    <test:mytag myAttr="\\${1+1}" />
    will result in the rendered value of the myAttr attribute to
    be "\${1+1}". The correct behavior is that the expression is
    evaluated and the rendered value is "\2".

Problem conclusion

  • The JSP Container code was modified to properly evaluate
    expressions when they are preceded by two backslashes.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
